'big players' (10 posts)
by John Barrow - Last post on: 06-28-04 07:09
What is going on?
Why have 'big' players not done well in this tournament, or for that matter
in WC 2002? Many of the players lining up for Greece and the Scandinavian
sides play for mid-table EPL sides, or the equivalents in other leagues -
Dellas, who's been outstanding, was actually released by Sheffield United!
I'm not taking anything away from the achievements of these players, but a... Full Discussion
[R] Group B and C (9 posts)

... are out as sson as they meet teams from the other group.
The teams that didn't advance from these groups must have been really
bad. Let's see:
Bulgaria: Only scored one goal
Switzerland: Only scored one goal
Croatia: Scored four actually, not so bad.
Italy: Scored three, let in two.
How common is it for the two teams that advance out of a group to get
eliminated directly. Must ... Full Discussion
Beckham and Scholes, and the England midfield (15 posts)
by Stevio - Last post on: 06-28-04 07:03
With hindsight, probably Beckham and Scholes should have been dropped as
neither played that well during the tournament.
Looking back, who would you have played in the England midfield? Perhaps
Cole, Gerrard, Lampard and Dyer?
You lack a creative player like Deco or even Rui Costa. You have players who
can make good long passes, but you need players who can play a short passing
game to r... Full Discussion

BBC Commentary Team (8 posts)

LAst night's performance was diabolical. If the BBC wants to restore
credibility, I think a clearout is needed. Hansen has really
overstayed his welcome and Peter Reid - the most inept manager EVER -
doesn't deserve to express his opinion. Ian Wright is an idiot who
offers ZERO insight. Joe Royle is a C grade manager and though he
seems a decent fellow, certainly does not enhance the viewers

CZECH REPUBLIC 3-0 DENMARK
Koller 49
Baros 63, 65
The first half was quite possibly the worst in this tournament. The Danes
surprisingly had the possession but did absolutely nothing with the ball.
The Czechs were quick off the blocks in the second half. Laursen got nowhere
near Poborsky's cross allowing giant Koller a free header in t... Full Discussion

The reason why he didn't play for us?
He wasn't "good enough foil" for Michael Owen, and he isn't "big and strong
and hardworking".
Heh.

Worst tournament (Euro/WC) since 1990? (24 posts)
by Edmund Lewis - Last post on: 06-28-04 06:46
Having seen all the games of Euro 2004 so far, I must say how
disappointed I've been with the general standard of the tournament-
including the non-performances of 'top' players, the amount of
defensive, negative play and the lack of general entertainment on
offer.
In fact, I believe it's been the worst Euros or WC since Italia 90-
1) Defensive/negative play. Teams thinking 'don't lose', n... Full Discussion
